its a piece of satellite that a group Tagruato lost hold of in space. its what fell from the sky into the ocean. tagruato and TIDO.WAVE went looking for it, digging holes into the sea floor, constantly tampering with the waters environment which woke the monster up. its all part of the viral marketing

i don't get the 1st ending you posted like what relevance it has to the movie except the part where he says "you'll remember this day forever"...

the second one was pretty much the same thing except a few more clips between the end and the amusement park scenes...

the whole point that jj wanted with the end of the movie was for each line to be something GOOD. the movie was a horrible incident and he wanted you to leave smiling. thats why beth says "it was a good day" and rob says "you'll remember this day forever". even in the trailer, the you owe me money guy says "this is gona be the best night ever" and thats how the trailer ended

I just went back and watched it and there is a satellite or something falling in from the top right but you gotta pay close attention because it kind of pops in and out

At the end of cloverfield, theres a brief flashback...and u see a satellite fall into the ocean in the background....Thas a satellite owned by the Japanese oil hu own SLUSHO...u'l know wat im onna bout if u watched the movie carefully...

the company were deep sea mining for a new flavour for slusho and then they discoverd they woke the monster...

Slusho's main ingredient is found at the bottom of the ocean, and can make a small fish grow into a whale n THATS what made the monster...

and the retrieval of the ingredient and the satellite that fell into the ocean...was what woke the monster up!

That shud explain it all...call me wateva...but I watch the movies carefully niggggggggassssssss. and NO...i dint go onto no spoilers cuz theyre all full of shit...
